Local resident Made Sediana expressed his discontent, stating, 'Tourists come to Nusa Penida to enjoy the serene panorama, not an elevator.' He emphasized that the steep path leading to the beach, while challenging, does not warrant the installation of such a structure, suggesting that it could even pose safety risks for visitors.

Supporters Highlight Accessibility and Safety

Despite the criticism, proponents of the glass elevator argue that it will significantly improve accessibility for visitors, particularly those who may struggle with the steep descent to the beach. The head of Nusa Penida, IKDek Yoga Kusuma, noted that the project is a private investment aimed at enhancing tourist facilities. 'The elevator will also serve as a means of evacuation for visitors who may encounter accidents while swimming near the cliffs,' he explained.

The elevator is designed to reach a height of approximately 182 meters, with photo spots every 20 meters, potentially offering breathtaking views of the coastline. The investment for this ambitious project is estimated at around Rp200 billion (approximately $13 million), reflecting the significance of tourism in the region's economy.
